Sparwood SAR was tasked to aid in the search for a missing couple from Fort Macleod, Alberta who had gone for a drive to explore the backroads on Saturday, April 14th. They were reported to have possibly planned on going to Fernie BC, which later proved correct. The search involved several SAR teams from BC and Alberta, along with RCMP and CASARA aircraft and over 100 convergent volunteers searching across Southern Alberta and Southeastern BC. The couple had become stuck in the snow on the Bull River forest service road and hiked through many kilometers of snow finally finding a cabin, where they found some food, firewood and a radio which they were eventually able to contact a local logger on. The logger reported the distress call, and Sparwood and Elkford SAR members flew to the cabin via helicopter and transported the couple out of the backcountry.
